Showing Up for Yourself

"Showing Up for Your Team" is the topic of my November webinar, but I’ve learned over time that you can’t effectively show up for anyone else until you show up for yourself first. You might be able to manage when things are easy, but when the heat really turns up, you will not be able to handle the extra baggage if you haven’t put yourself first.

We’ve probably all heard that great analogy - when you’re on an airplane, if the oxygen masks fall, you have to put it one on yourself first before you can help anyone else.
We should apply this logic to everyday situations, not just emergencies.
Although this has been a slow lesson for me, I began to find success when I started treating myself like another person. Imagine an incredibly talented resource on your team – someone who performs at a high level but has a hard time setting boundaries, so you need to help them.
When new projects come in, you consider delegating to other resources first so your team member has bandwidth for the most important projects.
When a project is assigned to this resource, you ensure the deadlines and goals are realistic so this person can work in an optimal environment, having time to balance other commitments and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
You’re the only person who is going to put you first. You have to set clear boundaries for yourself, ask for the resources you need, and set realistic goals. Then, once you have room for yourself in your day, fill it with something that helps you grow or enjoy life. Be nurturing, be creative, be active, and be in the moment.
If you’re not sure what that looks like, download this self-care bingo resource and get started!
Then, once you achieve personal balance, you’ll be able to effectively and consistently show up for your team.
